Along with a few others, I help organise the Edinburgh Travel Tweet Up. This popular wee soiree has been going for over 3 years now. For our first outing back in July 2010 I think there was 6 of us, sat around one table at a pavement cafe near St Giles, but it’s fair to say that it’s grown a shapely pair of legs since then.
These tweet ups are a fun, fairly informal affair but as such we sometimes tend to forget about them, being busy with our various projects, so we’ve been a bit lax lately and have not converged all year. Our last outing being the big Blogmanay bash at the swanky new Skyscanner offices near Quartermile.
Who goes?
The event usually attracts a pretty decent turn out, with a good mix of travel industry people, bloggers, writers, photographers, tour guides, web agencies and general social media savvy types in attendance. We usually get around 50 – 100 folk along. The event is always a fun, free networking thing with little ceremony attached.
We like to host each event in a different Edinburgh venue and would love to tempt one of Edinburgh’s many fine hotels and watering establishments into hosting us some time in the near future, probably after the Fringe now, perhaps early in September.
Some of our previous venues include the Apex Waterloo Place, the Hub, Hotel Missoni and Ryan’s Bar.
Sponsor wanted
For any venue happy to have us, we can offer sole sponsor status. For this you get:
- exclusive mentions in all tweets we do regarding the event before and after
- input into the chosen hashtag used for the event
- mentions on Facebook,
- a plug on the night and the opp to say a few words if you like
You might also want to use it as a chance to invite attendees to review or just have a look around your venue? Goody bags are always umm… good! 🙂
Entirely up to you what you offer of course. The main thing is securing a nice, buzzy bar or room for a few hours or more where the libations fairly flow. Nibbles are a bonus. See, we’re a cheap date, us.
Costs?
No cash commitment involved. These tweet ups are entirely free to attend and so are run as non-profit making.
